Institute Presentation
Academisch Ziekenhuis Leiden (Leiden University Medical Center, LUMC) is a modern university medical center for research, education and patient care with a high-quality profile and a strong scientific orientation. The unique research practice ranges from pure fundamental medical research to applied clinical research. Researchers at LUMC work together around seven medical research profiles (e.g. Vascular and Regenerative Medicine; Immunity, Infection and Tolerance; and Innovation in Health Strategy and Quality of Care). LUMC is a participant of the League of European Research Universities (LERU), an alliance of leading research universities in Europe.
LUMC is one out of three liver transplantation centres in the Netherlands and a top-referral center for gastroenterology and hepatology. All research in the department is aimed at increasing the understanding of cellular mechanisms in (patho-) physiological processes of the liver and the gastrointestinal tract in order to translate this into innovations for the diagnosis and treatment in clinical gastroenterology and hepatology.
In the A-TANGO project, LUMC will participate in the clinical trial and investigate biomarkers for mitochondrial function at the Gastroenterology and Hepatology research laboratory.
